COPout #3: Liquid Natural Gas Hypocrisy

Apologies for the lull of these COPout alerts, the spirit has been willing but the flesh has been a bit on the weak side … don’t worry there is plenty of ammunition for future Posts.

In the aftermath of Mr Putin’s new concept of logic LNG, Liquid Natural Gas, has become all the rage these days. Mother Merkel mopped it up like Mother’s Milk from Mother Russia, making Germany 65% dependent on Russia for its crucial supply of energy. Also incidentally enabling the German economy to slavishly support Putin’s poisonings. Oh dear.
That’s what I call strategic planning, Soviet style.

Meanwhile the UK has huge gas fields containing huge reserves with reasonably easy access. But our COPout politicians and ecologists refuse to even contemplate using it, citing our CARBON FOOTPRINT!
Oh we have such big feet … So to look good we tell big porkie pies
(a euphemism for ‘lies’ for our esteemed non-native, whoops PC alert sorry, English speakers).
We import our LNG from stable sunnier climes like Qatar BUT this nectar of the gaseous Gods has THREE TIMES the carbon footprint of our home grown natural gas. Source of data for all the fact checking ferrets is: Oil and Gas Authority Report 2020. This unfortunate fact is due to the energy cost (wastage) of liquifying it, pumping it, transporting it in vast vulnerable tanker boats and then putting it in the tiny bit of short term gas storage we have left. (the main depot burned down several years ago and we never did get around to rebuilding a new one, apparently a benefit of Corporate greed. It appears that environmentalists do not have any inkling of subjects like physics or thermodynamics … perhaps just as well, they’ve more than proved that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

So another superbly obvious ecologically disastrous own goal! Importing Gas to burn to make electricity to keep the lights on when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun’s not shining brightly,
because we got rid of coal instead of burning it cleanly.
Oh Dear.

Net Zero !
Net Zero What?
Net Zero Resilience !
Net Zero Heating for the Population

Net Zero Sense …

  1. The next time I read a blog, Hopefully it doesnt fail me just as much as this one. I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read through, but I actually thought you would have something useful to say. All I hear is a bunch of moaning about something that you could fix if you werent too busy searching for attention.
